As the season winds down, the A’s find themselves in a tough spot. They have dropped into a tie with Kansas City for the top Wild Card spot and are just three games ahead of the Mariners for the second spot. Oakland has not rebounded from its late-season swoon and could be in a lot of trouble to finish the year. We like the A’s to win this game with Jon Lester on the mound.

The battle for the National League West crown comes down to this; a three game series beginning on Monday night in Los Angeles between the Giants and the Dodgers. Los Angeles has already clinched a playoff berth, but is now working to win the NL West title. As week three of the NFL season resumes, the Dolphins prepare for an AFC contest against the Chiefs. Miami is 1-1 to begin the year while Kansas City has opened with an 0-2 mark in the second year of Andy Reid’s reign. Both teams are without their running backs for at least Sunday’s contest, which can alter how this game is played. We like Miami at home to send Kansas City to an 0-3 start to the season.

Pittsburgh, after a slow start to the season, has found itself in the thick of the playoff race with just days left in the regular season. The Pirates hold the second Wild Card spot in the National League by just 1.5 games over Milwaukee. Boston, after winning the World Series in 2013, will finish in the basement of the AL East division for the second time in the last three years. We like Pittsburgh at home in the middle game of this series.

Kansas City held the top spot in the AL Central for a brief period, but have since fallen to 1.5 games out of first behind Detroit. There is not much time left in the season and Kansas City is fighting for a playoff spot on two fronts. Chicago would love to put a damper on the Royals season by playing spoiler this week, but we just do not see that happening. We like Kansas City in the series opener tonight.

Week two of the NFL season resumes on Sunday afternoon as the Falcons visit the Bengals in a battle of 1-0 teams looking to begin the season with two straight victories. Both of these clubs won their openers by squeaking by their opponents. The Bengals have not started 2-0 since 2006, when they won their first three games. Atlanta will look to play much better on defense this week, which is why we like them in this contest.

The National League Wild Card race continues to get more interesting with each passing day. The reason for this is that the Brewers continue their last-season collapse and the Marlins keep winning games. Miami is out of the race in the NL East, but just 3.5 games out of the second NL Wild Card spot. Milwaukee has dropped to six games out in the NL Central and 1.5 games out in the Wild Card. We like Miami to win the third game of this four game series tonight.

Both of these teams struggled last year, but at different times. The Giants began 0-6 and the Lions collapsed in their final seven games to force both teams into an early off-season. We are going to back the host Lions in this contest on Monday night from Ford Field.
