NHL Playoff Betting Results: Sharks and Wings Wilt
Though not as easy as it may have appeared, the St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators have punched their tickets to the second round of the 2011-12 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
By virtue of 3-1 series loses, both the San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings saw their seasons end at the hands of up-start teams in the Western Conference. Is this a changing of the guard of the NHL? Only time will tell as the thrilling NHL playoffs roll on.
San Jose Sharks Singing The Blues In St. Louis
For the first time since the 2001-02 NHL season, there will be second round playoff action in the Show Me State. The St. Louis Blues, after dropping Game One of their series with the San Jose Sharks, played lock-down hockey and won four straight contests.
St. Louis outscored the Sharks 12-5 over the final four games and now have a chance to become the top seed in the West. If the Los Angeles Kings can knock off the Presidents Cup winning Vancouver Canucks in their first round series, St. Louis and Los Angeles will meet in Round Two.
Nashville Predators Knock Off The Detroit Red Wings
After not winning a playoff series in their first eleven years in the NHL, the Nashville Predators have now won a first round series in back-to-back seasons. Last year, the Predators knocked off the Anaheim Ducks (4-2) before falling to the Canucks in Round Two. This year they took down the mighty Detroit Red Wings with a 4-1 series win.
While the match win looks convincing, the difference in this series was goaltending as Pekka Rinne stood tall in the Nashville net. The Predators are advancing to Round Two despite being out shot by a 160-116 margin against the Red Wings.
