NFL Week 7: Steelers vs Dolphins – Game Summary

We continue our review of the Week 7 NFL 2010 schedule with a game summary featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers heading to South Florida to face AFC rival, the Miami Dolphins.

Pittsburgh came into this AFC non-divisional match-up as a -3 (-120) road favortite in the online sportsbook at Bodog.com.

In a classic battle and bruise AFC match-up, the Steelers met the Dolphins in Week 7 NFL action from Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL.

Pittsburgh was looking to hold the lead in the AFC North while the Dolphins were trying get back on track in the AFC East. The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first as they managed two field goals to lead 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams went slightly off script and lit up the scoreboard with a combined 27 points in the second quarter. With two touchdowns and a field goal in the second session (compared to 1 TD 1 FG for Miami) the Steelers had a slim 17-16 lead at half time.

Second half scoring slowed way down as the teams managed one field goal each in both the 3rd and 4th quarter. The game ended with a controversial call in the closing minutes. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger attempted a sneak and fumbled before crossing the goal.

After a replay review the officials were unable to determine who recovered the ball and possession was awarded to Pittsburgh. PK Josh Reed then kicked an 18-yard field goal to give the Steelers a 23-22 win.

With the victory, Pittsburgh (5-1) remains on top of the AFC North with a one game lead in the loss column over the Baltimore Ravens (5-2). The Dolphins fell to 3-3 and trail both the Patriots and Jets who sit at 5-1 in the AFC East.

Steelers Game Ball: On a rare day when the Pittsburgh defense looked ordinary, a veteran on offense bailed them out. WR Hines Ward had his best game of the season with seven catches for 131 yards and one touchdown.
