Monday Night Football: Redskins @ Cowboys Preview

While the Dallas Cowboys continue to flirt with success, the Washington Redskins are one of the surprise teams early on in NFL 2011.

The Cowboys are the last team to get a home game this season. Dallas opened on the road with a loss to the Jets (27-24) in New York, and an overtime win (27-24) over the 49ers in San Francisco. The ‘Boys are 0-2 in home openers at their gaudy new digs in Arlington.

Washington is heading out on the road for the first time this season. The Redskins have stormed out of the gates, with a shocking 2-0 record, with home wins over the New York Giants (28-14) and the Arizona Cardinals (22-21).

NFL Betting Lines: Cowboys vs Redskins Free Pick

We surf over to the sportbook at the JustBet online sports wagering website for the betting lines for tonight’s NFL MNF Free Pick. This line opened at Cowboys -4.5 but has come down a point since. It appears as if the betting public is buying into what the Redskins are selling.

Cowboys vs Redskins NFL Betting Lines

While we’re not fully prepared to go all in on the Redskins revival, we do see them as being on the right track. RB Tim Hightower and QB Rex Grossman are leading the way for Washington. The Skins are also getting stellar play out of TE Fred Davis who has 191 receiving yards through two games.

Dallas is a walking infirmary as QB Tony Romo has cracked ribs to go along with a recovering punctured lung. The Cowboys will also be without star WR Miles Austin, who is listed as OUT for this contest with a hamstring injury. WR Dez Bryant (thigh) and RB Felix Jones (shoulder) are listed as questionable but should both start.

The Washington defense won’t have to respect the Cowboys battered running game – that is virtually non-existent. They can also line up in single coverage in pass protection against the limping and inexperienced Dallas wide receivers. If the Redskins double anyone, it will be TE Jason Witten – then the Cowboys will be fully surrounded.

It all adds up to the Redskins defense rattling Romo all night long. If he plays at all, we doubt he’ll be on the field for the final whistle. This is not a good spot for the Cowboys.

Major League Baseball Bonus Free Pick

With both MLB Wild Card playoff positions still on the table, we couldn’t pass on the St. Louis Cardinals facing the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Texas tonight.

The Red Birds have gone 8-4 against the Astros this season and sit just one game back of the faltering Atlanta Braves for the National League Wild Card spot.

Sitting with a  55-104 record, Houston is the worst team in the majors and they were just pounded 19-3 by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Ouch! The Astros will come to play, in a spoilers role, but the Colorado crushing will be tough to recover from.

Cardinals vs Astros MLB Wagering Odds

We love St. Louis in this spot. In fact, we will soar, making this a double unit Free Pick, with the playoff bound Cardinals tonight!
