2010 NFL Week 2 Review: Chiefs Start 2-0 While Cowboys Sink To 0-2
Surprise! The Kansas City Chiefs sit at 2-0 while the Dallas Cowboys are a mess at 0-2 to start the NFL 2010 season. The Chiefs are an exciting, young team loaded with promise while the Cowboys can’t get out of the way of their own shadow early on in the young NFL season.
Most would be shocked if these trends continued but the Cowboys were over rated to start the season and no one gave the Chiefs a chance including sportbooks that set their 2010 win total at five.
Chiefs Squeak Past The Browns – First 2-0 Start Since 2005 – Final: 16-14
Break up the Chiefs! Thanks to an ugly 16-14 win over the lowly Cleveland Browns, the Chiefs are 2-0 and sitting atop the AFC West standings for the first time since the 2005 NFL season. Despite not scoring a touchdown on offense the Chiefs are an intriguing team to watch.
They are a young team that is loaded with promising players and they are full marks for their 2-0 start. Their second win in 2009 didn’t come until Week 10 when they beat the Raiders 16-10 at the “Black Hole” in Oakland.
While three field goals and a defensive touchdown is usually not enough to win in most weeks; it was good enough against the lowly Browns who may not win a game all season. For the second straight week the Chiefs were very stout on defense as they limited Cleveland to just 73 yards on the ground.
The Chiefs explosive return game took a week off after an impressive Week One against the Chargers but you can bet it will be back in the coming weeks. Something that is a sure thing is the fact that Arrowhead Stadium while be busting at the seams when the Chiefs host the 49ers in Week Three NFL action.
Bears Barrel Over The Cowboys For A Road Win – Final: 27-20
We are having a hard time deciding which is more shocking; the Bears sitting at a referee assisted 2-0 or the Cowboys sucking to an 0-2 start in the 2010 NFL season. In the pre-season many pundits were talking about Dallas playing in Super Bowl XLV in their own backyard. That talk has now turned to “when will they win a game” after they dropped their home opener.
Make no mistake about it; this is a team in turmoil and a quick fix is nowhere in sight. From the coaching staff, to the offensive line and on to the defense, the Cowboys look more like pretenders than contenders.
For the Bears part, they did just enough on offense and played “bend don’t break defense” to secure the 27-20 victory. Chicago made up for a lackluster 38 rushing yards with 277 passing yards that included three touchdown passes, to three different receivers, by QB Jay Cutler.
After a sub par first year in Chicago, Cutler appears to be back with full confidence as he has now tossed five touchdowns against just one interception to open the 2010 NFL season.
Big games are on tap for both of these teams as the Bears welcome the Packers to Soldier Field for an NFC North battle on Monday Night Football. The Cowboys visit Reliant Stadium for a battle against their instate rival; the 2-0 Houston Texans in Week Three.
Stay with us as we review all the action from another amazing week of football from the National Football League.
