NFL 2010 Week 8: Packers vs Jets Game Review

A windy Sunday afternoon in East Rutherford during Week 8 was the setting of a forgettable day for Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets.

So much for the Jets three game home winning streak against the Packers.

The Week 7 bye didn’t seem to help the Jets who entered the affair tied for the best record in the NFL. Dropped and errant passes plagued the New York offense throughout the game.

At Sportsbook.com online sportsbook, New York was set as the favorite at -6 with the game total posted at 42.5.

Bodog.com also had the Jets marked as the home favorite at -250, while the Packers were +210 underdogs against the moneyline.

Though they were only a touchdown away from winning, an incomplete Sanchez pass to Braylon Edwards with less than four minutes to play turned the ball over to Green Bay on downs and ended the pain for the home faithful.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, who apparently suffered a sprained ankle during the game, was a mediocre-at-best 15 of 34 for 170 yards.

Jets QB Mark Sanchez (16/38, 256 YDS, 2 INT) threw a little further but was offered no help from his receivers, who dropped four passes and missed many others.

Of note, the 20-yard Mason Crosby field goal for Green Bay in the first quarter was the first points allowed by the Jets in the opening frame all season.

Packers Game Ball: K Mason Crosby. Converting three of four attempts, his field goals were all that was needed to clinch the victory for his team. When your name is the only one on the scoresheet, you must have done something right.

Green Bay (5-3) gets to enjoy a Week 9 bye before travelling to Minnesota to challenge the Vikings (2-5) in an NFC North division showdown.

Jets Game Ball: The Waterboy maybe? If it has to be a player, WR Jerricho Cotchery showed up, gaining 89 yards on four receptions.

New York (5-2) travels to Detorit for a Week 9 clash with the Detroit Lions (2-5). Eyebrows will be raised if the Jets can’t and get the offense scoring and winning again against suddenly hot Lions.
