NFL 2010 Week 3 Review: Colts Bust Broncos, Eagles Annihilate Jaguars
As we continue with our NFL 2010 Week 3 Review, the tour bus will make stops in Jacksonville and Denver.
Anyone who questioned the Indianapolis Colts will and ability to win after their Week 1 loss to the Houston Texans has gotten some solid answers over the last two weeks of play in the 2010 NFL season.
It also looks like Eagles head coach Andy Reid made the right choice by making Michael Vick the starting quarterback in Philadelphia.
Despite Major Injuries – Depleted Colts Still Corral Broncos – Final: 27-13
There were a lot of whispers that the Indianapolis Colts may be relinquishing their “King of the Castle” title after they were handed a 34-24 drubbing by the Houston Texans in Week 1 AFC South football action. Those whispers have definitely been silenced as the Colts crushed the Giants 38-14 in Week 2 and then went on the road and busted up the Broncos 27-13 in Week 3 NFL action.
Despite being without starting wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Anthony Gonzalez plus Pro Bowl DB Bob Sanders the Colts keep doing what they do best – score a ton of points and win football games. There most recent win is very impressive as it came on the road against the surging Broncos
QB Peyton Manning was his usual surgical self as he passed 325 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. WR Austin Collie picked up where Garcon left off as he had 12 receptions for a staggering 171 yards and two touchdowns. The Colts needed to be sharp in the passing offense as the Broncos limited their running attack to a meager 41 rushing yards
Denver will be concentrating on their red zone efficiency in practice this week after seeing so many drives stall out against the Colts. The Broncos managed just two field goals and turned the ball over on downs three times during five trips inside the Colts 20-yard line.
They were equally inept at running the ball as they just 36 rushing yards from the running back tandem of Correll Buckhalter and newly acquired Laurence Maroney.
QB Kyle Orton lit up Invesco Field at Mile High with 476 passing yards as he completed a staggering 37 of his 57 pass attempts. In the end though, it wasn’t enough to get past the explosive Colts.
Eagles Soar to Solid Road Win – Easily Win Over Jaguars – Final: 28-3
Disclaimer: Yours truly is not a fan, nor will he ever be accepting of QB Michael Vick playing in the NFL. That being said; Reid, and the rest of Eagles management, look like they belong in Mensa after they dumped Donovan McNabb, benched Kevin Kolb and started gellin’ with the felon.
The Eagles have been lights out in games that Vick has played in as he has completed 54 of his 89 passes for 750 yards and six touchdowns without throwing an interception. He has also rushed for 179 yards on 23 attempts with one touchdown and no fumbles lost.
The numbers are impressive but keep in mind that most of them game against the Lions and Jaguars who think defense is something that borders their front lawn.
It also helps that Vick has an awesome supporting cast of young stars around him in RB LeSean McCoy, wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin as well as TE Brent Celek. What was McNabb thinking when he left that talent pool to go to the Redskins.
We don’t have a lot to say about the Jacksonville Jaguars as they are one of the worst run franchises in the entire NFL and they have a coaching staff couldn’t guide shigh school kids to a extended winning streak.
We feel sorry for Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew along with wide receivers Mike Sims-Walker and Mike Thomas as they are in impossible situations with the Jaguars.
The Jaguars 24-17 Week 1 win was done with smoke and mirrors against an unprepared, travel weary, Broncos team. They have been clubbed by a combined score of 66-16 in there two loses since. Getting to five wins during the 2010 NF season will be a “victory” for Jacksonville.
