New Orleans and Atlanta set Sail in the NFC South
With the potential to be one of the tightest divisions in the NFL this season, the games between New Orleans and Atlanta could decide who finishes first, and will certainly be among the most exciting matchups in the league. Mark down these important tilts – Sept. 26 at the Superdome and December 27 at the Georgia Dome.
The Falcons have a much easier schedule than last season; and look for the return of Michael Turner to help fill the bench with belief. Also watch for him to be more regularly involved in the passing game as he was during preseason.
The Saints have suffered some turnover common with championship teams, but most of the big guns have stayed put and the offense is well-equipped to score plenty of points. The team might not have enough to stretch to the superbowl again though, as repeating in this league seems to get harder and harder, and even winning the division isn’t a lock.
The Carolina Panthers have one of the best head coaches in John Fox, and he will be set on proving why he should keep his job through to next season. The Panthers also have one of the best rushing offenses. If the players rally to avoid another losing season, they could be competing for top spot.
The Buccaneers will have the most work to do this season. Though four of their first five games are at home, the young group could have too steep an uphill climb all around (last season they finished 30th in scoring offense and 32nd against the run). As they shape around first-round QB Josh Freeman, this season could be good for rebuilding and strengthening. Winning the division, not so much.
