Giants vs Bears: NFL 2010 Week 4 Review

The Chicago Bears visited the New York Giants at the New Meadowlands Stadium in Week Four NFL 2010 action.

The Bears came into this NFC match-up with a 3-0 record and were considered as a fraudulent undefeated team by many, including us.

The Giants were 1-2 and coming off two straight beat downs where they lost by a combined 67-24.

Giants vs. Bears:  Home Favorite Wins, Game Total Goes Under

The line opened Bears +4 but was quickly bet down to +3.5 at popular online sportsbooks line Bodog.com. The spread betting money was spit almost down the middle as the Giants had 45% of the backing while the Bears garnered 46% of the betting support.

The total at 44 points was never in jeopardy as neither team was able to mount much of an offensive attack. The money line closed at CHI +165 who had a whopping 78% of the backing while 22% of the betting public cashed in on the NYG -185.

Giants defeat Bears – Final Score: 17-3

We led the charge in saying that Chicago was not a bona-fide 3-0 team and they certainly backed that up in this one. The Giants, who weren’t looking like a contender themselves, pummeled the Bears from pillar to post and start to finish. New York was relentless with their pass rush and sacked the Bears quarterbacks ten times.

Chicago QB Jay Cutler took the brunt of the blows as he was crushed nine times himself. There’s no truth to the rumor that a Red Cap got in a tenth sack when Cutler was waiting at the airport. In addition to the ten sacks the Giants defense allowed just six first downs, they forced three turnover and the Bears failed to convert all 13 of third down attempts.

The Giants weren’t much better on offense as they managed just 372 total yards. The bright spot for the Giants offense was their rushing attack as Ahmad Bradshaw (128 yards) and Brandon Jacobs (62 yards) each scored a TD on the ground. Hakeem Nicks caught eight passes for 110 yards as those three players combined for 314 of the Giants 372 total yards.

Chicago Bears & New York Giants Game MVP

Giants Game MVP: Bookend defensive ends Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck each had three sacks a piece for the Giants defense.

Bears Game MVP: We’ll give the Bears MVP to the head trainer who kept Cutler upright through the barrage of nine sacks.
