A 49ers field goal in the first quarter by the 49ers was the only noteworthy action in a quiet first half. In the third period, backup Broncos QB Tim Tebow ran in from a yard out to give Denver a 7-3 lead heading in to the 4th quarter.
San Francisco Coach Mike Singletary was pleased to see his 30th-ranked offense turn it on in the final frame, scoring 21 unanswered points including a 28-yard Michael Crabtree TD reception.
Denver had two touchdowns called back – one at a crucial moment in the fourth quarter when they could have been in a position to tie the game with a two-point conversion – but an illegal block took away Eddie Royal’s 78-yard punt return.
Orton’s 1-yard pass to TD Brandon Llyod with 1:28 to play was far too late to gain momentum as the 49ers dutifully won their second game of the season as favorites.
