As mentioned, the Colts amazing run off consecutive years in the post season continues as they open the 2011 against the New York Jets. Their ninth appearance ties the Dallas Cowboys (1975-1983) for the most consecutive seasons participating in postseason games. Indianapolis is also one of the hottest teams heading into the playoffs as they have been playing for their playoff lives over the past four weeks – all wins that helped seal the AFC South title.

For their part, the Jets are back in the playoffs for the second year in a row. The only difference between this year and last year is that they were expected to be in the playoffs this season. New York fired out of the gates with a 5-1 record but they finished the 2010 NFL season with a 3-3 record over the last six weeks of the season.

Sophomore QB Mark Sanchez faces legendary field general Payton Manning in this non-divisional rivalry that has really heated up over the past couple seasons. This is a repeat of the 2009-10 AFC Championship game the ended with the Colts shooting down the Jets by a 30-17 final score. Manning has owned Rex Ryan built, blitz heavy, defenses over the years as no one reads and reacts better to the blitz.

The Colts have been banged up year but are probably as healthy as they have been all season right now. Welcoming back RB Joseph Addai is big for Indianapolis as it gives the Colts some respectability when it comes to running the football. That is way bigger than most give it credit for as the Jets will have to pay some measure of respect to the rush.

It won’t be as easy as last year but we see the veteran Colts, at home on the fast track, sending the Jets packing as they move on to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Divisional Playoffs next weekend. A final score of 27-21 seems about right here.
