2010 NFL Week 2 Review: Eagles Soar Over Lions, Bengals Cage Ravens
You have to hand it to the Detroit Lions. They still suck but at least that are now entertaining while they suck. The Eagles found out that the Motown Kitties have some claws as they barely escaped a 0-2 start in the Motor City during Week Two NFL action.
On the other side of Lake Erie, the Bengals and Ravens renewed hostilities in the Queen City. It was a game that was anything but pretty to watch. The 512 yards of pushing and shoving in that game could have set football back 40 years.
Young Stars Shine Bright in Eagles vs Lions Epic Battle – Final: 35-32
Some of the best young talent in the NFL was on display at Ford Field in Detroit during Week Two. The Eagles were able to trot out running back LeSean McCoy and wide receiver DeSean Jackson while the Lions countered with Jahvid Best and Calvin Johnson. The quartet, along with others stars from both teams, didn’t disappoint as Philadelphia and Detroit slugged it out like Championship prizefighters in a 35-32 thriller.
Some may argue that there was a lack of defense but in a league that is sometimes referred to as the No Fun League, this one was a ton of fun. It was nice to see the roar being restored in Motown as the Eagles and Lions lit it up with 853 total yards of offense and ten combined scoring plays. McCoy (2nd year) and Best (rookie) combined for 360 yards of total offense and six touchdowns as the fountain of youth exploded. Not to be left out, Jackson and Johnson combined for 290 yards and added two touchdowns.
In the end, the Lions fell to 0-2 but they are showing signs that better days are ahead. The Eagles move to 1-1 on the young 2010 NFL season and are as explosive on offense as any team in the league. it was nice to see a good old fashion shootout.
Bengals Host The Ravens – Let the Scratching and Clawing Begin – Final: 15-10
The polar opposite to the Lions vs Eagles game was the violent shoving match between the Ravens and the Bengals. So much so in fact that the previously mentioned quartet had 138 yards and five touchdowns MORE than Cincinatti and Baltimore had combined.
The Ravens were mentioned as a “power house” offensive team heading into the season but that has yet to materialize. It has been a rough start for QB Joe Flacco and company as Baltimore has scored just 20 points in their first two games.
The Bengals were in a track meet last week in New England but were up against a stouter defense in the Ravens. Cincinatti didn’t post numbers to write home about either as they won without scoring a touchdown. PK Mike Nugent, who was terribly well thank you, kicked field goals to account for all of the Bengals scoring.
Cinncinati and Baltimore should both be able to flex some offensive muscle next weekend. The Ravens welcome the Browns to town for the annual Baltimore beat down and the Bengals cruise into Carolina to take on the Panthers who have allowed 51 points in their first two games.
