Triple Crown Horse Racing: I’ll Have Another Gets Respect
With a thoroughbred horse racing Triple Crown on the line for the first time since 2008, the anticipation is building for the 2012 edition of the G1 Belmont Stakes.
All eyes will be on I’ll Have Another, a beautiful 3-year old Chestnut Colt, who has a chance to make history this coming weekend. Since Affirmed back in 1978, 11 horses have tried to capture the Triple Crown title by winning the Belmont Stakes – they all came up short.
I’ll Have Another: Triple Crown Championship Journey
Will we get the first Triple Crown Champion in nearly four decades? With an entire world watching, the Test of the Champion goes to the post at 6:40 PM ET on Saturday, June 9, 2012, from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The horse racing world is buzzing – for one very good reason.
I’ll Have Another is finally getting his due as he is the favorite in the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes. Virtually unknown when he romped to 43-1 longshot win in the G2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita Park, on February 4, he then won the Santa Anita Derby by a nose over Creative Cause as the second favorite before being shipped to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby.
Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes: Come From Behind Winner
Despite his impressive showing in California, I’ll Have Another went off as a 15-1 longshot, from post-position 19, in the Kentucky Derby. Showing the heart of a Champion, this soon to be Triple Crown King, tracked down Bodemeister in the final 100 yards to capture the Run for the Roses.
Come Preakness Day, I’ll Have Another (5-2) was second chalk as he and Bodemeister (8-5) hooked up for the second time in two weeks. For veteran horse handicappers, this race had an Alydar versus Affirmed feel to it. In one of the most thrilling Preakness races in history, I’ll Have Another came from behind once again and edged his Derby Day rival by a head at the wire.
It all adds up to what will be an amazing Belmont Stakes race in New York on Saturday. Will we finally get a new Triple Crown Champion? Top rated online horse betting sites seem to think so. I’ll Have Another has been installed as the early favorite with an EVEN money wagering line. Open a Racebook horse handicapping account and be a part of Triple Crown horse racing history!
