Tigers On The Prowl For Playoff Home Field Advantage
Detroit is hosting the Baltimore Orioles for four games in their final home stand of the 2011 regular season. Baltimore took the opener 6-5 on Thursday while the Tigers bounced back with 4-3 win, in eleven innings, last night.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland has been around baseball for decades, he knows the difference between running hot or cold, and he rarely takes his foot off the gas. He wants his Tigers firing on all cylinders as they head into the 2011 MLB Playoffs.
Though they won’t openly admit it, the Tigers would rather host the Boston Red Sox (or Tampa Bay Rays) in the Division Series – rather than head to the Bronx to face the New York Yankees.
Team Goals Trump Individual Accolades
Detroit hands the ball to the best pitcher in baseball tonight as Justin Verlander is seeking his 25th win of the 2011 MLB season. The last 25 game winner in the majors was Bob Welch, who won 27 games for the 1990 Oakland Athletics.
Verlander is a lock for the American League Cy Young Award and he has a shot at earning the first Triple Crown (tops in wins, strikeouts, and earned run average) since Johan Santana turned the trick with the Minnesota Twins in 2006. He may even win the AL MVP Award – and should!
Tigers first baseman, Miguel Cabrera has a shot at winning the MLB batting title as he currently sits five percentage points behind Adrian Gonzalez from the Boston Red Sox.
Personal accolades will continue to rain down on Cabrera, Verlander, and several other Tigers but, for now, the second seed in the playoffs is a team goal – and the Tigers only goal.
MLB Betting Lines: Orioles @ Tigers Free Pick Prediction
Today’s MLB betting lines are courtesy of the Sportsbook at the BetOnline sports wagering website. Their prices were the best we could find on this contest and they are still fairly inflated.
The Orioles have been scrappy down the stretch as they own an 8-3 record over their last eleven contests. That being said, we fully expect them to get caught up in the moment as they marvel at the brilliance of the Vaporizer on the bump in this contest. Put a Tiger in your betting tank tonight!
