Fantasy Football 2010 – Top 4 Sleeper Picks Quarterback
Before the days of mass media fantasy owners needed to do some serious digging to unearth the diamonds in the rough known as fantasy sleeper picks.
In todays world, where every move a team or player makes is instantly broadcast around the world the hardest part, in relation to sleeper picks, is keeping them under wraps.
Everyone and their dog is searching for the next “big thing” so try to stay ahead of the pack.
2010 Top 4 Fantasy Quarterback Sleeper Picks
Joe Flaco – Ravens: Flaco has posted fantasy points of 230 and and 258 over his first two seasons. His numbers have been brought down by his experience, a weak receiving core and the run first game plan in Baltimore. The addition of WR Anquan Boldin, Flaco entering his third season and the Ravens claim to wanting to be more vertical this season all help Flaco make this list.
Derek Anderson – Cardinals: We said a few weeks back that Anderson would beat out Matt Leinart as the starter in Arizona and it looks like it is going to happen. That in itself is not enough to make Anderson a sleeper but it does help. With the Browns in 2007 Anderson posted 314 fantasy points with less weapons than he has now. If he can return to form, Anderson has a shot to be fantasy gold.
Matthew Stafford – Lions: Entering his second season, with a revamped offense, the first round pick of 2009 NFL Draft has a chance to put up some sick numbers during the 2010 season. He already has one of the games premier receivers in Calvin Johnson who will get some help with the addition of WR Nate Burleson and TE Tony Scheffler as well as rookie RB Jahvid Best.
Matt Moore – Panthers: Moore starts the season as the uncontested starter in Carolina and finished the 2009 season with a bang. Even though the Panthers are a run first team, Moore went 4-1 down the stretch last season while completing 85 of his 138 passes for 1,053 yards, eight touchdowns and just two interceptions.
Dig deep and diligently when searching for sleepers and you may discover fantasy gold!
Sleeper Picks – Do Your Homework!
There are not a lot of “secrets” out there in the new age of instant media but you still have to do your homework to discover the elusive and much sought after sleeper selections.
A good place to start is reviewing the final few weeks of the previous season. Find players who had lower fantasy point totals but finished strong at the end of the year. There were a couple classic examples of that heading into the 2009 season from the tight end position.
Eagles TE Brent Celek and Packers TE Jermichael Finley both fit the bill.
Celek finished the 2009 regular season with 64 fantasy points but then lit it up in the playoffs. In Week 17 and the Eagles three playoff games, Celek had 181 YDS and four TD. His 19 catches in three playoff games was even more impressive. His fantasy point total in those four games was 63 points.
Finley played sparingly in 2008 but had three catches for 54 YDS and one TD in the Packers last two games. His sleeper value came from his impressive size, the chemistry he developed with QB Aaron Rodgers and the speed he showed during the late stages of 2008.
