Fantasy Football 2010 Preview – Wide Receivers Are Wild
Go ahead, dive whenever you feel comfortable. The wide receiver pool for the 2010 Fantasy Football season is one of the deepest in recent memory.
It is also an amazing mix of players well into their prime, players settling into their prime and a group knocking on the door to get into the exclusive prime time players club.
Fantasy Football Veteran Wide Receivers
Of the 32 projected number one wide receivers; eight of them have at least nine years of fantasy stats, another five have at least six years of service and the remaining 19 players have five years or less NFL experience.
The Grey Beards are lead by Patriots receiver Randy Moss who is said to be in the best shape of his career and is also in the last year of his current contract ($$$). Terrell Owens has brought his traveling road show to the Queen City and will line up opposite another entertainer in Chad Ochocinco. It’s an interesting combo and you may want them both if the price is right.
Derrick Mason, Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith (CAR) and Santana Moss round out the 30-something crowd. Wayne and Smith are both safe bets as your number one wide receiver. Moss will be catching balls from Donovan McNabb and Mason will be over shadowed by newly acquired WR Anguan Boldin.
Former Super Stud, “Big Game” Torry Holt is rumored to be on his way to the “Black Hole”. Thanks for the fond fantasy memories Torry! See you in the Hall with Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner as the Rams version of the “Triplets”.
Prime Time Fantasy Football Wide Receivers
The list of prime time fantasy wide receivers is short but packed with star power. This group is led the Texans Andre Johnson and the Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald. Johnson has been lights out while winning the WR fantasy race each of the past two seasons. He is a beast!
We don’t like the QB situation in Arizona and have knocked Fitzgerald down a few pegs. If (when) Derek Anderson wins the starting job from Matt Lenart, we will bump Fitz back up a bit.
Roddy White in Atlanta, Brandon Marshall in Miami and Marques Colston in New Orleans round out the prime time players. All five of these studs would be a good start to your wide receiver roster.
Emerging Fantasy Football Star Wide Recievers
Calvin Johnson leads a solid group of receivers with three years or less experience. Megatron could be the Johnson at the the top of the fantasy WR heap come seasons end. We think he is a year away with second year QB Matthew Stafford at the helm but he will have a monster 2010 none the less.
Steve Smith from the Giants, the Eagles DeSean Jackson, Vikings WR Sidney Rice and 2009 phenomenon Miles Austin from the Cowboys round out an impressive list of stars who either have or are close to arriving.
Depending on your draft position and league rules, having any of two of these studs with an equally stud starting running back would make for a very solid first three rounds!
