MLB 2011 ALCS Game 3 Preview: Rangers @ Tigers
After dropping two straight contests in Texas, the Tigers limp home in a serious ALCS hole. When you look at the overall picture, the Rangers bullpen has out-pitched the Tigers bully through the first two games. If not for the GS by Nelson Cruz, both games would have been one run contests.
Detroit has also been their own worst enemy after stranding 22 base runners and batting a combined 2-19 with runners in scoring position. Victor Martinez and Miguel Cabrera, the three and four hitters for the Tigers, stranded a combined 12 base runners during the two games in Texas.
Plucked off the scrap heap (AKA Seattle Mariners) at the trade deadline, RHP Doug Fister is now charged with salvaging the Tigers season. Fister allowed one run, on five hits over five innings, to help Detroit clinch their ALDS victory over the New York Yankees.
Texas will counter with RHP Colby Lewis who has been a postseason stud with a 4-0 record (1.67 ERA) in five career playoff starts. That being said, Lewis wasn’t very sharp down the stretch as he allowed 30 runs over his last seven regular season starts.
Playoff Baseball Betting Lines: Tigers vs. Rangers Game Day Free Pick
We found fairly even betting lines, across the board, for tonight’s Detroit versus Texas ALCS Game 3 match-up. In the end, we are getting the best numbers in the Sportsbook at the JustBet.com sports wagering website.
After facing two lefties, to start this series, Detroit gets a right handed pitcher tonight. The Tigers are 16-4 in their last 20 games against RHP as opposed to just 10-10 against LHP.
Detroit whacked Lewis around pretty good (7.1 innings pitched 13 earned runs) in two regular season contests that were both won by the Tigers. Texas was 2-4 straight up, but 6-0 against the spread, at Comerica Park this season.
With the future of the ALCS hanging in the balance, we like the Tigers to claw their way back into the series tonight. If they do, they set up the Vaporizer for a Game 5 start. If they don’t, the 2011 ALCS could be a Rangers sweep.
