Kickoff  Weather Forecast: Climate controlled dome stadium.

Last Meeting: Atlanta 20 vs. Green Bay 17 – NFL Week 12 – November 28, 2010.

On the road for a second straight game, the Green Bay Packers are playing what amounts to their fourth straight playoff game. Green Bay has faced elimination every weekend since a 31-27 loss to the New England Patriots back in Week 15. Since then they have rattled off three straight wins (Giants, Bears, Eagles) by a combined 76-36 score.

As for the Atlanta Falcons, they have been home resting for the past two weeks after they pounded the Carolina Panthers 31-10 in Week 17 to wrap home field advantage in the NFC PLayoffs. In fact, the Falcons have not been on the road since December 19, 2010 when they sacked the Seahawks 34-18 in Seattle.

Despite the fact that they both play in the National Football Conference, their isn’t very much recent history between these two teams. They did battle in a close 20-17 game in Atlanta back in Week 12. That game was dominated by the Packers on the stat sheet but won by the Falcons on the scoreboard. Green Bay put up 418 total yards to just 294 by Atlanta. A 47 yard Matt Bryant field goal with nine-seconds left on the game clock won it for the home town Falcons.

For the Packers to have any success, in what will be a loud and rocking Georgia Dome, they can’t afford a repeat of the eight penalties that cost them 66 yards in the previous meeting. The Falcons love being in the “Nest” under the Dome where they have won eight of their last nine games (6-3 ATS) including the 14.5 spread cover to close out the regular season.

QB Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have found a running game to compliment their explosive passing attack and that spells trouble for the Falcons. Green Bay had just 77 total rushing yards in the last match-up and 51 of them came on 12 rushing attempts by Rodgers. Rookie running back James Starks has burst onto the scene and is the perfect compliment to RB Brandon Jackson.

The Packers should not have expected Jackson to carry the load after Ryan Grant was lost for the season in Week 1 with a ankle injury to begin with. He is much better as a change of pace back. Throw in a healthy does of bruising RB John Kuhn and the Falcons run defense will have their hands full. The Packers running game will expose the Falcons 22nd ranked pass defense and Rodgers should have a field day in this one.

No one is hotter than the Packers right now and their new found triple threat running game, coupled with a superior defense, will be enough to get the Packers to the NFC Championship Game to face the Fraudulent Yogi’s. A 23-17 Green Bay victory seems about right here.

Divisional Weekend Free Picks: Packers +3 ~ Packers +115 ~ UNDER 44.5 points
