Free Picks – Packers vs. Bears – NFL 2011 Conference Championship Sunday
Free Picks – Packers vs. Bears – NFL 2011 Conference Championship Sunday: That was some tough running by the Packers bruising fullback Clarke Hinke as he plowed in from one yard out. The point after try by Don Hutson is successful and Green Bay has taken a 7-0 lead over the Chicago Bears.
If you were fortunate enough to own a transistor radio and the reception was clear out of Wrigley Field, you may have heard that game call in the American football playoffs on Sunday, December 14, 1941.
2011 NFC Championship Sunday – 70 Years Later
Unfortunately, the early TD run outlined above was one of the few bright spots for loyal Packer Backers 70 years ago. The Chicago Bears would go on to score 30 unanswered points and rout the visiting Green Bay Packers 33-14

NFC 2011 Championship Predictions– Bears vs. Packers – How We See It
We have been on the Green Bay Packers bandwagon since the start of the pre-season and we aren’t about to jump off now. The Packers 48-21 dismantling of the Falcons last weekend showed just how good this team is – on both sides of the ball.
Had it not been for Eric Weems’ 102-yard kickoff return touchdown, which happens to be the longest scoring play in NFL playoff history, the score would have better reflected what a blowout this game really was. Atlanta was averaging 341.1 yards per game on offense and the Packers held them to just 194 total yards – in their own backyard under the Georgia Dome.
We have also been of the opinion that the Chicago Bears have been Frauds since their gift win in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. The officials ruling that a WR Calvin Johnson TD reception was actually an incomplete pass started what has been a season of smoke and mirror play in Chicago.
You can’t read much into the “comeback” by the Seahawks in Chicago last weekend. We think the Chicago Cubs were out on the field as Seattle scored 14 points in the final 4:33 to make the 35-24 final score appear “respectable”.
If you are wagering on this game at a respected online sportsbook like Bodog.com, you need to consider the following key facts and statistics:
- Chicago ranked 20th against the pass in the regular season, the Packers had the 5th highest passing offence.
- The Eagles ranked 15th against the pass while the Falcons were 22nd overall during the 2010 NFL regular season.
- QB Aaron Rodgers has completed 49 of 63 passes,on the road in two playoff games, for 546 yards and six TD, 0 interceptions.
- Nine different players caught a pass for the Packers against the Eagles, seven caught passes against the Falcons.
- This game will have a similar crowd feel to it as the Eagles game so the Packers have been there and done that.
- Eight of the Bears eleven wins came against teams with a combined 37-75 record during the regular season.
- In their last four home games, the Bears have allowed 24, 34, 36 and 26 points to SEA, NYJ, NE and the Eagles.
We don’t see the weather being a factor at all and there is very little travel involved. The Packers traveled south, just 206 miles, down the west coast of Lake Michigan. It was probably a fun and relaxing bus ride for boys.
We’re also not putting a lot of stock in the Week 17 game though the horrible field conditions in Chicago are a slight concern to us.
Give the Bears their rightful loss for the Lions game and they probably would not have made the playoffs at all. It’s Midnight Cinderella! The Yogi’s are frauds and Ranger Smith (the Packers defense) will finally catch and corral them with their paws in the wrong picnic basket.
It has been over 70 years, one month and ten days since the Bears and Packers last played in a playoff game against each other. It’s almost surreal when consider their rich and extensive history as long time bitter rivals in the Black and Blue “Norris” Division.
On that December 14, 1941 day at Wrigley Field, just seven days after the tragic bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Bears had the upper hand with a 33-14 victory.
As we fast-forward to the 2011 National Football Conference Championship Game – we see a reversal of fortune for the Green Bay Packers. They are simply the better of these two teams. We thought about just reversing the score but this edition should be a little closer. Our prediction for today’s epic and historical “Showdown at Soldier Field” is a 24-17 Green Bay victory in the NFC 2011 Championship Game.
The playoff road warrior Green Bay Packers will advance to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV in North Dallas at Cowboys Stadium on Sunday, February 6, 2011.
