Atlanta Falcons @ Detroit Lions: Game Day Preview
QB Matt Ryan and the Falcons fly into the Motor City to face the Detroit Lions as part of the early Sunday Week 7 action. Ford Field in downtown Detroit, Michigan, plays host at 1:00 PM ET.
Atlanta (3-3) is coming off of a 31-17 beat down of the Carolina Panthers in Week 6 action. The Falcons have been on a lose one, win one, streak since the start of the 2011 NFL season.
Detroit (5-1) suffered their first loss of the season as they fell 25-19, at home, to the suddenly red hot San Francisco 49ers. The Lions had a 19-15 lead, at the two minute warning, but San Francisco converted a fourth and goal touchdown to take a 22-19 lead.
Detroit may have lost more than their first game as star RB Jahvid Best could be out for the season due to concussion issues. This is the second concussion for the sophomore back this season – one more may end his career way too early.
NFL Week 7 Betting Lines: Lions vs. Falcons Free Pick
We surf over the sportsbook at the BetOnline sports wagering website where the Lions as -3 point favorites over the Falcons. While we aren’t expecting a close contest in this one, most books are offering Atlanta at +3.5 points.
We would advise the scoreboard operator to get a good night’s sleep on Saturday because he will be busy come Sunday. The Falcons have the 27th ranked pass defense, and they sit 22nd in both total points and yards allowed.
Detroit sits 26th in rushing yards allowed and they will need to stop Falcons RB Michael Turner who just gashed Carolina to the tune of 136 yards on the ground. Atlanta is a different team away from their home nest and the Lions will be an ornery bunch following a game they should have won.
Even without a running game in Detroit, the Falcons won’t have an answer for Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigew, and Matthew Stafford. On the other side of the ball, the Lions D will swarm Ryan and Turner all day. The Lions will restore the roar in Motown this weekend!
