Vikings @ Packers Monday Night Football Preview
Green Bay (8-0) enters this contest as the lone remaining undefeated team in the NFL, and winners of their last 14 regular season and playoff games. Not only are the Packers winning, but they are also lighting up the scoreboard with a lethal display on offense. Back in Week 9, the defending Super Champions built a 21 point lead and cruised past the Chargers 45-38 in San Diego.
Minnesota (2-6) have been a huge disappointment this season – despite having the best running back in the NFL. That being said, five of the Vikings six loses have been decided by seven points or less. That includes a Week 7 contest where the Vikings lost 33-27 to the Packers in Minnesota. The final score is a little flattering though, as the Packers lead 33-17 heading into the fourth quarter.
Monday Night Football Betting Lines: Packers vs. Vikings Free Pick
It’s Monday Night and this is the only game in town. As we normally do for Monday Night Football, we turn to the Sportsbook at Bodog.com for our Packers vs. Vikings Free Pick betting lines. Throughout tonight’s MNF match-up, LIVE BETTING is available at Bodog!
This line opened at Green Bay -13.5 and has creep up a half point to +14 Vikings. You know you are in for a blowout when the books don’t put a Money Line on a game – as is the case here. Green Bay didn’t cover as a -10 favorite back in Week 7 but that game was played in Minnesota.
Neither team has been able to keep their opponents off the scoreboard as the Vikings sit 30th with a 24.9 points against average. Green Bay has been somewhat better but they still give up 22.4 points per game. On the other side of the coin, the Packers can score at will as they have averaged 34.4 PPG, while the Vikings are managing just 21.4 points per game
Minnesota has been leaking in their secondary all season long as they sit 30th in pass yards allowed and were just lit up for 290 yards, and three touchdowns, by rookie QB Cam Newton and the lowly Carolina Panthers. Green Bay owns the third best aerial attack in the entire NFL, behind the Patriots and Saints, as QB Aaron Rodgers & Co. average 312 passing yards per game.
From a betting trend perspective, the Packers are just 5-10 ATS in their last 15 home games versus Minnesota. Those numbers are a little skewed however as the Packers have covered three of the last four against the Vikings at Lambeau Field.
Minnesota Covers The Spread: If Adrian Peterson Has A Dominanting Effort
All World running back Adrian Peterson also has to be factored into the betting equation here. Purple Jesus has feasted on the Packers as he has rushed for 982 yards, and six touchdowns, in nine career starts against Green Bay. Those numbers include his 175 yard, one TD, effort during the Vikings Week 7 loss to the Packers.
We have been on both sides of the fence while handicapping this game. To be honest – we still are. One thing is certain, we won’t be betting the farm on this contest. While Green Bay will run their record to a perfect 9-0 and 15 straight, we think Peterson and the Vikings will come out fighting, with some “Norris Division” pride, for this Monday Night Football match-up.
We have talked ourselves out of backing the Champs to cover the spread here. That is not always a good thing for us. Plug your noise, take the points, and hope the Vikings show some pride!
