MLB National League West 2012 Division Betting Preview
As mentioned in the opening, the National League West certainly doesn’t conjure up images of the “wild, wild, West” – seemingly year in and year out. Rarely in the headlines, the NL East has some talent.
San Francisco won it all in 2010 and Arizona pulled down a World Series title in 2001. Even the Colorado Rookies made it to the Fall Classic back in 2007 against the Boston Red Sox. Let’s take a look at what stacks up as a fairly balanced NL West in 2012.
Giants Set To Battle The Diamondbacks
After the NL Central, no division has the title odds closer than the National League West. In the Central the Reds (+125) are small favorite over the Brewers (+150). In the NL West it’s the Giants with a slight chalk line of +125 over the Arizona Diamondbacks (+200) who are the defending NL West Champions.
While neither team has a much different look in 2012, the Giants are scheduled to get catcher Buster Posey back from a year long broken leg injury. The Diamondbacks added some potential pitching punch as they acquired Trevor Cahill from the Oakland Athletics over the winter.
Can The Dodgers Make Some On-Field News?
News out of Chavez Raven has mainly focused on the circus show that is the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership issues. Let’s hope the group that includes Joe Torre and Earvin “Magic” Johnson wins the bidding war currently playing out. With talent like OF Andre Ethier and LHP stud Clayton Kershaw, Big Blue could also have say in the West.
It will be another year of “wait until next year” for fans of the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres. It’s tough to be a “homer” fan in Colorado – at least San Diego has beautiful beaches!
