Two Struggling Teams Meet When Detroit Hosts New Jersey Friday Night

Two of the league’s most storied teams will meet on Friday night when the Detroit Red Wings host the New Jersey Devils in Michigan. Both teams have struggled this season, but this will still be an exciting contest. Both teams are working for a playoff spot, but it could be out of reach right now. We like the Red Wings at home in this contest.

Red Wings very close to a playoff spot

Detroit is just four points out of a playoff spot in the Atlantic Division, trailing the Tampa Bay Lightning in the standings. The Red Wings have split the first two games of this three-game set with the Devils and will look to secure the series victory at home tonight. In his last five games against New Jersey, backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson is 4-0-1 with a 1.99 GAA. He is 14-4-3 overall this season.

Devils trying to add offense to their game

After acquiring forward Tuomo Ruutu from Carolina, the Devils hope a change of scenery will help him regain his scoring touch and ignite their offense. Long-time goalie Martin Brodeur was rumored to be on the trading block, but survived the deadline and is still with New Jersey for the stretch run. In his first four-plus season with Carolina, Ruutu scored 81 goals. He has just nine in his last two years. He has just 16 points this season with Carolina.

The odds for tonight’s New Jersey and Detroit NHL contest can be found at Sportsbook.ag, where the host Red Wings are favored by 1.5 points. We will drop 10 percent of our bankroll as we lay the line with the Red Wings against the Devils. Even though these two teams have struggled this year, this game should still be very exciting. Enjoy the contest as these two playoff hopefuls collide in Detroit, Michigan.
