Struggling Spurs Hope to Get Back on Track Against the Pelicans
With the NFL season in our rear-view mirror, we can put some of our focus on the NBA schedule. The games on Monday, February 3, 2014 feature two struggling teams in the New Orleans Pelicans and the San Antonio Spurs. Both teams are 5-5 in their last 10 games played, but the Spurs are the better of the two teams. New Orleans is down three starters right now as they prepare for the Spurs.
Spurs annual nine-game rodeo trip begins tonight
The annual rodeo trip for the Spurs begins on Monday night when San Antonio visits New Orleans. Both of these teams are banged up, with the Spurs playing without Manu Ginobili, Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green for at least the next month. The Spurs recently snapped a three-game losing streak, their longest of the season, and have played to a 5-5 mark in their last 10 games. They hope injuries don’t get the best of them on this trip.
Pelicans trying to get healthy as soon as possible
New Orleans has also played to a 5-5 mark in their last 10 games and are not healthy right now either. They are without three of their starters: Jrue Holiday, Ryan Anderson and Jason Smith. When hosting the Spurs, the Pelicans have lost seven of the last nine meetings. New Orleans sits six games out of the final spot in the Western Conference playoff picture as of Monday night and are only 11-11 in front of their home crowd this season.
The spread for tonight’s NBA contest is much closer than it should be due to the injuries both teams are dealing with right now. San Antonio is -3.5 (-110) road chalk at BetOnline against New Orleans tonight, which is why we like the Spurs to begin their nine-game road trek with a win despite all of their missing pieces.
