European Ryder Cup Team – Wales 2010
On October 1-3 the 2010 Ryder Cup will be played at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales. The European Ryder Cup Team has just announced their opening day roster to both the delight and dismay of Ryder Cup fans.
Colin Montgomerie already had the first 10 automatic selections to the 2010 European Ryder Cup Team in Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Francesco Molinari, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson but his final 3 picks are raising eyebrows amongst the professional golf community.
Montgomerie announced the inclusion of Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari to fill out his roster, which meant several other talented players were cut off the team.
Notable absentees from Montgomerie’s roster were Paul Casey and Justin Rose. Paul Casey is currently ranked 9th in the world and Justin Rose is ranked 22nd, both players are ranked higher than most of the American players who were chosen for the American team. This just goes to show how stacked the European team is.
Just to add a little more fuel to the fire, Montgomerie was unable to tell Casey in person that he did not make the team as Casey was in the middle of a tournament playing with Padraig Harrington as his doubles partner when the announcement was made. Harrington was selected to the team.
Can you say awkward?
