2010 NFL Week 2 Review: Green Bay Packers & Miami Dolphins Move To 2-0
The NFL Sunday Week Two action is now in the books and it was another wild weekend of exciting football action. Contenders are starting to look like pretenders and Chumps are starting to look like Champs. The Green Bay Packers and, more surprisingly, the Miami Dolphins are 2-0 during what has been the start of another crazy NFL season.
As is the case every week with the NFL there were more than a few shocking results in what was an extremely entertaining Week Two across the league.
Green Bay Packers Punish The Buffalo Bills – Final: 34-7
The game that featured the largest line of the week (-13.5) at popular online sportsbooks turned out to be one the biggest blowouts of the week as well. The Packers thumped the hapless Bills with a 34-7 whitewash that was actually worse than the final score indicates. The numbers certainly bare that out as the Packers had 346 yards of total offense to the Bills 186 total yards.
Green Bay saw their first two drives stall and settled for field goals or this game would have been over by halftime. The Bills didn’t get a first down in this game until the last play of the first quarter on 14-yard run by RB Marshawn Lynch as the Packers controlled the ball for eleven of the opening fifteen minutes of the game.
Buffalo did mount an impressive drive early in the second quarter as they went 80 yards in eight plays to make the score a respectable 13-7 at halftime. That drive was a wake up call for the Packers defense as the punished the Bills for pillar to post and shut them out the rest of the way. The Packers are one of the few teams that are actually living up to their per-season Super Bowl Hype.
Dolphins Defense Destroys The Minnesota Vikings – Final: 14-10
In a game where the final result was somewhat shocking to most fans, the Dolphins ruined the Vikings home opener with a 14-10 upset win. Quarterback Brett Favre is probably wishing he had stay retired after he had one of the worst games of his storied career in Week Two. In addition to three interceptions, Favre was also sacked three times and lost a fumble that the Dolphins recovered in the end zone for the eventual game winning touchdown.
The Viking ship is a listing vessel and taking on water in a big way as the pre-season NFC North favorites are sinking like a sunset. Even though they out-gained the Dolphins 364-226 in total offense, the Vikings have looked very ordinary through the first two weeks. The main culprit is their offensive line that is not protecting Favre or opening any holes for running back Adrian Peterson. If they are going to right the ship a resounding win over the visiting Detroit Lions in Week Three would be a good first step.
With the NFL back; it really is the most wonderful time of the year isn’t it?
