NFL 2010 Week 3 Review: Cardinals, Bears Win Ugly, Jets Survive
The final three games on the NFL 2010 Week 3 schedule saw New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals move to 2-1 while the Bears are the worst 3-0 team in recent memory but now “lead” the NFC North. That lead won’t last long, trust us!
The Jets played text book football to beat the Miami Dolphins while the Green Bay Packers committed a franchise record 18 penalties to give the Bears their second “gift win” in three weeks. The Dolphins stays at home and welcome in the New England Patriots while the Jets will shuffle of to Buffalo to face the Bills in NFL 2010 Week 4 action.
Cards Enjoy Home Cooking – Raiders Don’t Get Their Kicks – Final: 24-23
Arizona got blown out 41-7 by the Falcons in Week 2 but settled in at home and waited for the Oakland Raiders to bring by the welcome gifts in Week 3.
The Cardinals played at home for the first this season and snuck out the side door with a 24-23 win over the Oakland Raiders. There weren’t many hi-lights in this game as the teams combined to attempt seven field goals. The last of the seven was missed by Raiders PK Sebastian Janikowski from 32 yards away as time expired.
Come to think of it, the Cardinals are a fraudulent 2-1 team as well as the Buccaneers and Seahawks. The Cardinals venture out on the road to face the Chargers while the Raiders head home for a shootout with the Texans in Week 4.
New York Jets Fly to Miami – Take Home Victory Souvenir – Final 31-23
This game was one of the more entertaining games of the week and was closer than the final score indicates. The Dolphins had an end zone pass intercepted by the Jets DB Drew Coleman on the last play of the game that sealed their fate.
The two teams combined to rack up 838 total yards of offense and generated an amazing 11 scoring plays (6 TD, 4 FG and one Safety).
The Jets got a major contribution on offense from QB Mark Sanchez who had one of his best games as pro. Sanchez completed 15 of his 28 passes for 256 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. TE Dustin was on the receiving end of six of those completions and gained 98 yards with two touchdowns.
Future Hall of Fame super-stud RB LaDainian Tomlinson is liking his New York minutes and reeled of 88 total yards with one touchdown. In all, the Jets ripped the Dolphins for 146 net rushing yards.
Miami got a huge contribution from WR Brandon Marshal as the All Pro caught ten passes for 166 yards and one touchdown. In the end though, the Jets played bend don’t break style football and forced the Dolphins into three field goals.
QB Chad Henne was solid with 363 pass yards and two touchdowns but he was picked off twice by the Jets. it didn’t help the Dolphins cause that they were limited 84 net rushing yards.
Bears Win Ugly – Packers Pile up the Penalties – Final: 20-17
One of the busiest people on staff at Soldier Field following the Packers clash with the Bears had to have been the person who washes the yellow flags. We understand that penalties are part of the game but when you commit 18 of them in one game, your chances of winning are slim and none and slim will have already left town.
This was another game where the losers had a huge discrepancy in total yards over the winners as Green Bay posted 379 total net yards to the 276 for Chicago. Bears QB Jay Cutler looked lost for most of the game as the Packers picked him off once and dropped at least two other easy interceptions.
Culter stumbled and bumbled for 37 rushing yards to the lead the Bears running attack as they could only muster 67 total yards on the ground.
Chicago didn’t win this game as much as Green Bay lost the game. The Packers were in control throughout but the 18 costly penalties, an interception, a special teams miscue (Bears punt return TD) and a costly fumble late in the game accounted for their demise.
The Pack will back though as they welcome the Detroit Lions to Lambeau Field while the Bears will try their lucky fishing pool at the New Meadowlands Stadium when they face the Giants in Week 4 NFL action.
Bring on Week 4 in the National Football League, we are ready for some football!
