Colts @ Redskins – Home Underdog Covers – Game Total Goes Over – Final: 27-24
Indianapolis had not won in Washington since Lyndon Baines Johnson was the US President. That day, on Sunday October 29, 1967, Johnny Unitas led the Baltimore Colts past Sunny Jurgesen and the Redskins 17-13 in Week 7 NFL action.
That steak almost carried over as the Colts hung on to win 27-24 despite bumbling and fumbling through most of the game.
Indianapolis opened the scoring at the 9:47 mark of the first quarter on a QB Peyton Manning 57-yard TD bomb to WR Pierre Gacon. The Redskins closed the quarter with a 9-yard TD scamper by RB Ryan Torain.
The Colts would score a TD and add a FG in the second session to make the score 17-7 at the half. The teams traded rushing touchdowns and Washington added a field goal as the third quarter ended with the Colts leading 24-17.
Colts PK Adam Vinatieri kicked a 33-yard FG as the Colts survived a late, fourth quarter, Redskins TD to win 27-24. Washington’s “oh by the way” TD pushed the game total OVER and allowed for a back door cover by the home underdogs.
Public money was over the Colts at SportsInteraction.com but the Colts win still paid a tidy 58.82 units on a 100 unit money line bet.
Colts @ Redskins – Game Notes – Game Stars
Colts Game Ball: Already playing with various nicks and bruises; much maligned Colts’ RB Joseph Addai rushed for 128 yards and one TD. Addai rushed for 63 yards during a four play, 66-yard third quarter drive that he capped with 13-yard “pinball” type TD run. He would leave the game after the second play in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury and not return.
Indianapolis moves to 4-2 and have a share of the AFC South lead with the Houston Texans. The Titans or Jaguars will join them in first place after they face off on Monday Night Football tonight. The Colts get to savour this important road win as they have a bye in Week 7 before hosting division rival Houston in Week 8 of the 2010 NFL season.
Redskins Game Ball: RB Ryan Torain led Washington with 109 total yards and two rushing touchdowns. Torain’s 100 yard rushing day was his first with the Redskins as well as the first in his brief NFL career.
Despite three Colts turnovers (all fumbles) Washington couldn’t capitalize as they fall to 3-3 and into third place in the tough NFC East. They trail the Giants and Eagles who both sit at 4-2 through six weeks of the NFL 2010 schedule. The Redskins travel to historic Soldier Field in Chicago to battle the Bears in week 7.
