NFL 2010 Week 14 Game Preview – Free Picks

Some pundits (not us) have suggested that this game could be a Super Bowl XLV preview. It’s fitting that it will be played in the bitter cold at Soldier Field, as both teams have been white-hot. The Bears have won five straight games while the Patriots have won four in a row.

Both teams led their respective divisions but have been winning in completely opposite fashion. New England has won their last four games by a combined score of 160-81 while Chicago’s last four have been decide by a combined 91-59 score. The Bears defense is third in points allowed at a stingy 16 points per game while the Patriots offense leads the league in scoring with an average of 31.6 points per game.

Weather will be a huge factor here and is enough for us to leave this game off our card. Both teams have played in bitter cold weather often but the wind will be brutal on Sunday. That being said, and if we were forced to bet, we like the Patriots here. The offense knows where it’s going while the defense has to react in the slippery conditions. The Patriots have the superior offense in this match-up.

Both teams will battle for field position early but QB Tom Brady will get in a couple of quick strikes in what will be a low scoring game played in very nasty conditions. This game has an ugly 19-13 final score type of feel to it.

Free Picks – NFL 2010 Week 14 Game Preview

The Jets were pummeled 45-3 in front of a global audience during Monday Night Football to close out Week 13. Prior to the game Jets head coach Rex Ryan caller this game “the marquee game of the year”. After the game, the Jets coaching staff called it “embarrassing and humiliating.” We could add another 20 adjectives to that list. Teams have crashed and burned in over-hyped games before but this was one of the worst beat downs in NFL history.

For their part the Dolphins battled tooth and nail with the Browns and then tossed away the game with an interception deep in their own territory with the game heading to overtime. Cleveland quickly kicked a field goal and the 13-10 win was the first time they had won in Miami since 1970.

The Jets are starting to show cracks all over the place. Their 9-3 record should also be taken with a grain of salt. New York has played the Patriots twice plus the Packers and the Ravens once each and went 1-3 in those games. Their other eight games have been against teams with non-winning records. Miami and New York have a history of blowouts and very close games alike as they match-up twice a year – every year.

This one will be close and, if the Dolphins can get up early, we would be leary of an upset in the making. The Dolphins practiced in the nasty New York conditions this week, and it will be rain, not snow, that the teams will be dealing with on Sunday.
